This new award celebrates and formally recognises the achievements of alumni of the University, who have made outstanding contributions to society. He has shown exceptional courage in the face of adversity and has triumphed in the world of sport.
Carmella teaches at All Saints C of E Junior School in Fleet, Hampshire and has shown considerable dedication to the Hampshire Diamond Jubilee Gambia Project. All Saints have been the leading school in the fundraising campaign for the Gambia Project. They have raised nearly 7K towards the 20K target. As Project Co ordinator of the 'Learning through Friendship Project' at All Saints, Carmella has visited The Gambia on a number of occasions and has enthused her students with her passion for the country and the children of Soma.

Jonathan now works as Disability Sport Development Officer an as a Behaviour Support Teacher.
Following his rehabilitation from a life threatening case of pneumonia in 2004, Jonathan attended a disability have a Adidas Blue Climacool Ride go day and was scouted by the Great Britain Paralympic Cycling Team and asked to join. Things were looking up for Jonathan when he and his cycling partner Zak Carr were hotly tipped to become World Number One tandem cyclists after representing Great Britain in the 2005 World Championships. Tragically, Zak died after colliding with a car whose driver had fallen asleep at the wheel.

Alumnus of the Year
Carmella led the fundraising activities which included cake sales, car washing and quizzes. The majority of the money was raised through a 'Make a Pound Grow' Project. Every child in the school was given 1 which they could grow in any way they liked, inspired by the parable of the talents. This gave the children the opportunity to independently lead a personal project and to think about and reflect on the school's links with The Gambia.

England alongside his caps for Great Britain. Jonathan and his England team finished fourth in the Blind Football World Cup in 2010 and took part in the European Championships in 2011.

Jonathan showed immense resilience when faced with not only dealing with this tragedy but with his eyesight deteriorating even further. He joined the partially sighted football league and once there he was spotted by the England scouts and asked to play for the partially Adidas Boost Football

Jonathan studied Primary Teaching at Winchester playing football during his time there. After graduating, Jonathan was diagnosed with a rare eye disease and was told that he was going to lose his sight.
